We spent our few weeks in Australia in Gold Coast. It is the second largest city of Queensland, just after the Capital Brisbane with is situated approximately 45 kilometers north.

Gold Coast is widely known for his surfing, high-rise dominated skyline, theme park and nightlife. The big city includes various different suburbs, localities and towns.

SURFER'S PARADISE & Q1 TOWER

  • May 22th : Today I went to the top of Gold Coast. If you like Highs and breathtaking views over the city, q1 tower is the place to go. This skyscraper of 322 meters high, inaugurated in 2005, used to be the tallest residential building of the world, until 2011 with the construction of the Marina Torch in Dubai. I paid 25$ to reach the observation deck, but it was totally worth it, you have an amazing 360° view over Gold Coast and the ocean, and the better option is probably to go just before sunset, so you can enjoy both the daily and night lights.

COOLANGATTA

Coolangatta is the southernmost suburb of City of Gold Coast. It was named in memory of the schooner (sailboat with 2 to 7 masts) Coolangatta which wrecked there in 1846.

We spent one week couchsurfing there, and it turned out beeing a really nice town to live in, the beach is beautiful and the waterfront very well arranged for skating, running or only enjoying a nice walk. It is also great to stay there a few nights during a van trip in Australia since it is one of the rare coastal place which is van-friendly and where you are allowed to sleep facing the ocean.
